Ford School Students with Hazel at Neighborhood Senior Services Fall Chore Day 2007.

At the Ford School, students have several opportunities to get involved in local communities. Our Applied Policy Seminars offer the chance to work with governmental offices in Southeast Michigan on policy development and evaluation.

The School’s Community Service Organization, a part of the Student Affairs Committee, organizes several projects each year. Our students also participate in U-M activities such as the Detroit Project and in programs offered through the Edward S. Ginsberg Center for Community Service and Learning which houses programs such as AmeriCorps, Project Community, America Reads, and Alternative Spring Break.

As part of New Student Orientation, first year and continuing Ford School students participate in a day-long, team-building community service project organized by the Social Chairs. In 2008 we worked with Growing Hope in Ypsilanti.

In the fall, Ford School students participate in the Neighborhood Senior Services Fall Chore Day. This day gives us a chance to tackle tangible objectives while de-stressing and working as a group. Fall Chore Day is organized to help people who are elderly or disabled prepare their homes and yards for winter.

Ford School faculty, staff, and students take part in two food and clothing drives, one at the end of each semester. These drives benefits organizations affiliated with the Detriot Partnership.

During the second semester, the Ford School takes part in the Relay for Life to fundraise for cancer research. In 2008, our first year, we were the 3rd highest fundraising group on campus!
