Health Impact Assessment: when health considerations are factored into the decision making process when developing policies, programs, plans, and projects, sectors that historically have been viewed as unrelated to health (transportation, education, agriculture, housing). Using scientific data, professional expertise, and stakeholder input to identify and evaluate the public-health consequences to minimize adverse health effects and optimize beneficial ones.
