James Kvaal is a Towsley Foundation Policymaker in Residence. As deputy director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, Kvaal oversaw the policy development process on a range of domestic policy issues, including legislation and executive actions to make student loans more affordable, reform K-12 education, raise labor standards for federal contractors, and make two years of college free. In 2012, Kvaal was the policy director on President Obama's reelection campaign. Over the course of his career, he also served in the U.S. Department of Education, the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the Clinton White House. He attended Stanford University and Harvard Law School.
