$4 million federal grant will fund predoctoral training for education policy research

The University of Michigan received a $4 million federal grant to establish a predoctoral research training program in education sciences. The grant from the U.S. Department of Education unites the Ford School, the School of Ed, and the Department of Economics to train doctoral students in conducting research to the institute's standards. more »

Growing confidence in vaccines

A recently conducted survey found that parents' perceptions of vaccines have become more favorable over the past year, notes Dr. Matthew Davis in a new video produced by the U-M Health System. Why? "Over the last year there have been high-profile news stories about outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases like measles and whooping cough," Davis says. "These news reports may be influencing how parents perceive childhood vaccines across the country." Read more about the research here.

H. Luke Shaefer will be an associate professor of social work and public policy. His research focuses on the effectiveness of the U.S. social safety net in serving low-wage workers and economically disadvantaged families. more »
