Kathryn Dominguez nominated to Federal Reserve's Board of Governors

President Obama announced that he will nominate Ford School professor Kathryn Dominguez to serve on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the nation's top monetary policymaking body. Dominguez's current research examines the reasons for the U.S. economy's slow recovery from the Great Recession, including the role of global economic developments. more »

Programs like early childhood education, better living conditions, and oversight for occupational hazards would lead to better everyday health for Americans, and could reduce healthcare's financial burden by as much as a trillion dollars over the next decade, says House. more »


$4 million federal grant will fund predoctoral training for education policy research

The University of Michigan received a $4 million federal grant to establish a predoctoral research training program in education sciences. The grant from the U.S. Department of Education unites the Ford School, the School of Ed, and the Department of Economics to train doctoral students in conducting research to the institute's standards. more »

Growing confidence in vaccines

A recently conducted survey found that parents' perceptions of vaccines have become more favorable over the past year, notes Dr. Matthew Davis in a new video produced by the U-M Health System. Why? "Over the last year there have been high-profile news stories about outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases like measles and whooping cough," Davis says. "These news reports may be influencing how parents perceive childhood vaccines across the country." Read more about the research here.

A social demographer, she most recently was professor and chair of the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University. more »

Luke Shaefer, co-author of $2.00 A Day: Living on Almost Nothing in America

H. Luke Shaefer will be an associate professor of social work and public policy. His research focuses on the effectiveness of the U.S. social safety net in serving low-wage workers and economically disadvantaged families. more »
