Barry Rabe quoted in Detroit Free Press on Proposal 3

October 7, 2012
Job creation is often a point of contention when states—such as Michigan—consider implementing new clean energy standards, Barry G. Rabe told the Detroit Free Press in, "Proposal 3 would put state out front in dash to renewable energy."

Proposal 3 is a constitutional amendment on the November 6 ballot that would increase Michigan's reliance on renewable energy by requiring the state to get 25% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2025. Proponents of the amendment use job creation (up to 94,000 jobs) as a selling feature, but opponents say that estimate is inaccurate.

Rabe explained to the Detroit Free Press that this debate is not unique. "In other states, we have tended to see extreme estimates on one side and extreme underestimates on the other side and the reality [is] in between."

Rabe also spoke to Michigan Radio about Proposal 3 in a segment called "Muddying the Michigan constitution?"
