PhD Admissions
The Ford School of Public Policy’s Joint Ph.D. Program offers three degrees:
Ph.D. in Public Policy and Economics
Ph.D. in Public Policy and Political Science
Ph.D. in Public Policy and Sociology
Admissions Process Summary:
- THE APPLICATION AND ALL MATERIALS ARE DUE BY DECEMBER 15TH.
- Students must designate one of the three degree tracks, Economics, Political Science, or Sociology, at the time of application.
- The application requires a program code Please choose the code associated with the program you will be applying for: Public Policy & Economics 01677; Public Policy & Political Science 01679; Public Policy & Sociology 01681. Level: Doctoral. Sub-plan: Economics, Political Science, or, Sociology.
- Applicants for the joint Ph.D. in Public Policy & Sociology must designate a primary topic of research in Sociology. See the Sociology Dept. website: http://www.rackham.umich.edu/Programs/social.sci/socio.html.
- The application files of those recommended for admission by the Ford School PhD admissions committee are then forwarded to the appropriate department admissions committee counterpart for consideration.
- Applicants will be notified of admission decisions in mid-March.

Official Transcripts: Send official transcripts of courses taken and grades received at each post-secondary institution attended/attending and at any international institutions (if you have completed or are completing a degree program at an international institution). Transcripts from non-U.S. institutions (if not in English) must be accompanied by certified English translations. Send one official set to Rackham (Attn: Transcripts) & one official set to FSPP. |

Official Test Score Report. GRE and TOEFL (if international applicant) scores must be sent directly from the testing service to Rackham. The UM institution code for GRE and TOEFL is: 1839. |

Academic Statement of Purpose: (Describes your skills, achievements, relevant experience; professional, intellectual, research interests, and, career objectives). |

Admissions Conduct Code: complete electronically via the online application (if applicable), or, mail to Rackham. |

Writing Sample(≤ 20 pages): Required if applying to Joint PhD with Sociology and recommended if applying to Political Science. Not required for Economics. |
