Behavioral insights and parental decision-making: A new framework for supporting low-income families

Ariel Kalil is a behavioral economist and professor at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy and the director of the Center for Human Potential and Public Policy. She studies economic conditions, parenting, and child development. Kalil will share about her work to understand the gaps in parenting and the cognitive impacts poverty creates.

Seefeldt’s primary research interests lie in exploring how low-income individuals understand their situations, particularly around issues related to work and economic well being. Currently, she is conducting research on families’ financial coping strategies and is a Principal Investigator of a survey examining the effects of the recession and recovery policies on individuals’ well being.
