The Weiser Diplomacy Center, Career Services, and Development and Alumni Relations are offering sessions during the winter '23 semester for you to engage with alumni who are working abroad/have worked abroad and work on a variety of international policy issues. Sessions will feature undergraduate and graduate Ford School alumni. Come prepared with questions, while listening and learning from alumni as they share about their experiences and offer helpful advice for work in international development policy. 

Based in Los Angeles, Maggie Barnard (MPP ’21) manages national refugee health programs through a contract with DHHS’s Office of Refugee Resettlement. After completing her MPP degree and Weiser Diplomacy Fellowship, Maggie received a Recent Graduate Student Fellowship with the United Nation’s International Organization for Migration (IOM) at the onset of the Ukrainian crisis. Maggie previously worked in the non-profit sector as a volunteer Country Specialist for Tanzania with Amnesty International, in Refugee Policy at Human Rights First, and as a Refugee Case Manager with Migration & Refugee Services, where she opened the Ohio Center for Survivors of Torture.

Marianna Smith (MPP'21) is a Foreign Service Officer with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). She is currently assigned to the Southern Africa Regional Mission based in Pretoria, South Africa where she designs and monitors development projects in the education, environment, democracy, economic growth, and health sectors. Prior to her assignment with USAID/Southern Africa, she worked for USAID/Washington in the Office of Policy and in the Africa Bureau. Before joining USAID, Marianna was a Migrant Services Specialist at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and worked for a contractor of the U.S. Department of State implementing an exchange program for U.S. business leaders and Latin American entrepreneurs. Marianna holds a Master of Public Policy from the University of Michigan and a BA in Communication and Spanish from Alma College. Marianna is an alumna of the Donald M. Payne International Development Fellowship.
