From the speaker's bio:

James Ron is a sociologist and political scientist, jointly appointed to the Department of Political Science and the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. He joined the University of Minnesota in 2011, after teaching in Canada for 10 years, and at Johns Hopkins University for two. James' current research focuses on human rights, NGOs, and the global South. He is conducting opinion polls on these issues in multiple countries, and recently completed a survey of 235 human rights workers in 60 countries. In years past, James has published on political violence in the Middle East, former Yugoslavia, Africa, and Latin America; on humanitarian aid; and on the determinants of international human rights reporting. James publishes regularly in scholarly and popular venues.

Ford Security Seminar (FSS) brings together University of Michigan faculty and graduate students with outside scholars to discuss key developments in the theory and practice of international politics. Participants present original research on topics including international security, international law and institutions, and foreign policy analysis.
