Date & time

Nov 15, 2019, 11:30 am-1:00 pm EST

Location

Betty Ford Classroom (1110 Weill Hall)

Op-eds provide a chance for the writer to lay out an argument directly to the audience, making it a great way to advocate for a policy. But there’s still a gatekeeper in the news outlet’s opinion page editor, who is weighing many priorities when selecting which authors get column inches and digital pixels.

Join us to hear from Ingrid Jacques from The Detroit News and Jewel Gopwani from The Detroit Free Press to learn about the Dos and Don’ts of op-ed writing and submissions. They will share what they look for when selecting a piece and how best to submit an op-ed, along with other tips and tricks.

This workshop will include a short activity regarding op-ed writing.
