Brian A. Jacob research cited in Wall Street Journal blog about local, short-term effects of gun shows

April 27, 2011

Research by Brian A. Jacob was cited in a Wall Street Journal Ideas Market blog called, "Gun Shows Don't Increase Crime, Study Finds."

In Jacob's forthcoming paper, "The Short-Term and Localized Effect of Gun Shows: Evident from California and Texas," he and co-authors Mark Duggan and Randi Hjalmarsson examined 3,400 gun shows in California and Texas during a 10-year period. The researchers found no correlation between the gun shows and an increase in gun violence or suicides in the geographic areas around the shows in the four weeks following the event.
