Ford School Charity Auction receives U-M award for excellence in philanthropy

March 29, 2013

In recognition of its annual event to raise funds for nonprofits in Michigan and around the world, the Ford School Charity Auction has been selected to receive the Forever Go Blue Award for Excellence in Philanthropy Beyond the University of Michigan.

Over the past 15 years the student-led charity auction has raised more than $100,000 for important charities through organized bowling outings, bake sales, poker games, luncheons, trivia nights, and dozens of other events. Beneficiaries of the event have included homeless shelters, sports programs for girls, organizations that reintegrate returning soldiers, organizations that promote peace and recovery after war, and many other charities. Last year, the event successfully raised $12,000 for the Detroit-based nonprofit Alternatives for Girls.

The 2013 Ford School Charity Auction dinner and gala will take place on April 6 at the Kensington Court Hotel in Ann Arbor. Tickets for the event can be purchased through March 29 in the Ford School Dean's Suite in Weill Hall, and the Charity Auction Committee is accepting donations for live and silent auction items until March 30 through its online form.
