Hyman awarded Spencer Foundation grant to study the effects of targeted information on college enrollment decisions

Education Policy Initiative postdoctoral research fellow Joshua Hyman will use the Spencer Foundation grant to study the effect of information about college financing on students' enrollment decisions. The project, a collaboration with the Michigan Department of Education, is titled "Information and College Enrollment: Evidence from Two Statewide Experiments in Michigan."

Hyman designed and, in collaboration with Venessa Keesler, deputy superintendent at the Michigan Department of Education, will implement two statewide experiments in spring 2014. Both experiments will examine whether providing students with information about the costs and benefits of college, as well as about the college and financial aid application process, alters students' decisions of whether and where to enroll.

The mission of the Spencer Foundation is to investigate ways in which education, broadly conceived, can be improved around the world. The Foundation supports high-quality investigation of education through research grant, fellowship and training programs.
