Rising child poverty long trend in the making, says Danziger

October 22, 2013

Sheldon Danziger was quoted in a Fox News article about rising child poverty. The article covers a study by the Southern Education Foundation which found that the majority of public school students in 13 southern and four western states are living at poverty levels, as well as a study by Opportunity Nation which found that one in seven young adults between the ages of 16-24 are neither in school nor working.

Danziger noted that the rise in child poverty is related to decades long economic trends, explaining:

"We've had very slow economic growth, and particularly falling real wages for workers with less experience and less education for more than 30 years. So, this is a long trend in the making."
