The Ford School seeks proposals from alumni to develop Summer 2015 internship partnerships in the areas of science, technology, or health policy. Proposals must be for internships within public and non-profit organizations otherwise unable to fund an intern. Up to four proposals will be selected for the coming year; the selected internships will be announced to students in early January 2015 with final candidate selection by the host organization expected by early March.
The Master of Public Policy students selected for the internship partnerships will receive $7500 in funding support from the Ford School for the full time 10-week summer internship.
The internships are funded through a gift received as part of the Victors for Michigan campaign to establish 8 new internship partnerships over a 3-year period in the areas of science and health policy. The first two organizations selected in Summer 2014 were the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health in Brooklyn, NY, and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Office of Health Policy in Washington, DC.
Scope of Work
Applications are welcome from all areas related to science, technology, and health policy, including those that deal with research funding, promoting innovation in particular sectors such as energy or biotechnology, and regulatory policy. Internships should allow students to apply their knowledge, skills, and 1st-year MPP coursework to significant problems in a public or non-profit organization. Work accomplished during the summer is expected to be policy-focused, challenging, and of value to the host organization The Ford School will select up to 4 proposals for Summer 2015 consideration.
Submit a Proposal
Interested host organizations can submit a proposal (including a brief description of your organization, possible summer projects, and developmental opportunities for the intern) on our web form.
Timeline
Proposals are due by November 14, 2015. Selection of the new 2015 host organizations is expected by December 12 with full position description due no later than January 7. Application materials from interested students will be forwarded to the host organization the week of February 16.
