November 1, 2016

Ford School PhD student Eitan Paul was awarded a Weiser Emerging Democracy Fellowship for the 2016-17 academic year for his work on emerging democracies in the Global South.

The fellowship is sponsored by the Weiser Center for Emerging Democracies, which “promotes scholarship to better understand the conditions and policies fostering transformations from authoritarian rule to democracy.” The center is located within the University of Michigan’s International Institute.

Eitan Paul received a BS in Foreign Service at Georgetown University before earning an MA in law and diplomacy at Tufts University. He is now a joint PhD student in public policy and political science. Paul’s fields of study are comparative politics and public policy and his research interests include the effects of foreign democracy, human rights, and governance assistance on political mobilization in competitive authoritarian regimes in Southeast Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.
