Ali shares counterterrorism expertise with media following mass shootings

August 6, 2019

After two mass shootings the weekend of August 3, 2019, Javed Ali joined with other former senior directors for counterterrorism at the National Security Council in a statement on domestic terrorism. The statement read in part “it has become abundantly clear over many months now that more must be done to address acts of violence driven by extremist views of all types.” Ali, a policymaker in residence at the Ford School, followed up the statement by doing interviews with the media to share further insights, drawing on his knowledge of domestic terrorism.

In the days following the shootings, Ali has talked with BBC, CBS News, MSNBC, and NPR.

While talking with Rachel Maddow on a panel, AIi shared “As a former FBI insider, the FBI is doing yeoman’s work to try to combat this threat but again it doesn’t have enough resources on that pure domestic terrorism side so they would have to make an internal decision to shift more agents, analysts, investigators in the field to look at that.”

Watch and listen to Ali’s full interviews from CBS News, MSNBC, and NPR.

Javed Ali is a Harry A. and Margaret D.
