Many congressional Democrats are calling for a vote on the climate portion of the Build Back Better bill, citing the urgency of the climate crisis. Barry Rabe, J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Professor of Public Policy and Arthur Thurnau Professor of Environmental Policy, discussed possibilities for bipartisanship on the climate bill.
“Lots of the direct benefits of these [clean-energy] tax credits already go to red states,” Rabe said. “We have seen major growth of wind and solar production in predominantly Republican states, such as Texas, Oklahoma and North Dakota. And these policies have had bipartisan support over time.”
