Sharon Sand

Sharon Sand manages the Detroit Metro Area Communities Study (DMACS), an initiative designed to regularly survey a broad, representative group of Detroit residents about their communities, including their experiences, perceptions, priorities, and aspirations. Prior to joining DMACS and Poverty Solutions, Sharon managed the Healthy Environments Partnership, a community-based participatory research partnership based in Detroit that examines and develops interventions to address social determinants of health inequities. In this role, she built strong relationships among researchers, Detroit residents and community-based organization staff, and city and state government representatives to promote community well-being and public health. Sand has a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire and a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Michigan Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy.
