Andrea LaFontaine works as the Executive Director for Michigan Trails & Greenways Alliance (MTGA).  She is responsible for the overall strategic and operational responsibility for the organization's staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission.  MTGA is a statewide non-profit that serves as the voice for non-motorized trail users; helping people build, connect, and promote trails for a healthier and more prosperous Michigan.

She was recently named the Griffin Endowed Chair in American Government at Central Michigan University.  As chair, LaFontaine teaches two university courses and hosts community forums on topics related to Michigan government and policies.

Prior to working with Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance, Andrea spent 2 years in the Executive Division at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, acting as the SE Michigan policy Advisor and assisting the Iron Belle Trail team.

Prior to that, she served 6 years in the Michigan House of Representatives, representing District 32, covering Northern Macomb, and portions of St Clair County.   During her tenure in the legislature she served on multiple policy committees and was appointed chairwoman of the House Natural Resource Committee for 4 years.

She holds a Bachelor of Science and a master’s in public administration from Central Michigan University.

P3E's Young Leaders in Public Service series provides the opportunity for a small group of students to hear from and talk with elected officials and staff who will share their journeys, what led them to dedicating their lives to public service, and the skills that have helped them be successful.
