Dean Barr appointed APSIA Executive Committee Secretary and Treasurer

October 1, 2021

The Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA) recently named Dean Michael S. Barr as the Secretary and Treasurer of its Executive Committee. The Ford School is one of the 33 member schools of APSIA.

Barr, the Joan and Sanford Weill Dean of the Ford School, brings expertise in domestic and international finance regulation, with a particular emphasis on financial services for low-income communities. He served in President Barack H. Obama's Administration as the U.S. Department of the Treasury's assistant secretary for financial institutions, and was a key architect of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010.

Barr will join the Executive Committee to improve professional education in international affairs and advance international understanding, prosperity, peace, and security. Jim Levinson, former professor at the Ford School, and now Director of the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs at Yale University, serves as president. Merit E Janow, Dean of Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs serves as vice president.

Created in 1989, the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA) is dedicated to the improvement of graduate education in international affairs. APSIA seeks to advance international understanding, prosperity, peace, and security through the people and ideas shaped by our schools.
