The events of 9/11 touched the Ford School directly, with the death of Josh Rosenthal, a 1979 University of Michigan graduate, who in 2001 was 44 years old and worked as a senior vice president at The Fiduciary Trust, which had its offices on the South Tower's 90th floor. His family established the Josh Rosenthal Education Fund Lecture, which on this 20th anniversary year will include reflections from journalists Beth Fertig of WNYC and Nancy Youssef of the Wall Street Journal. They both covered the attacks and their aftermath, as well as the U.S. response at home and abroad. The event, Covering 9/11: How the attacks shaped our world today, is co-sponsored by Wallace House, home of the Knight Wallace Journalism Fellows and the Livingston Awards for young journalists. The global “War on Terrorism” has gone through many changes since the initial invasion of Afghanistan. As the U.S. withdraws its forces after nearly 20 years, three experts will give their views on Key developments in counterterrorism and national security since 9/11. Michael Chertoff, former Secretary of Homeland Security, Farah Pandith, foreign policy strategist and first-ever Special Representative to Muslim Communities at the Department of State, and Eric Schmitt, journalist at The New York Times, will join the Ford School’s associate professor of practice Javed Ali, a former senior director for counterterrorism at the National Security Council.
