Ford School professor Shobita Parthasarathy has been named to the scientific council for ANSES, the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety. ANSES is a public administrative body reporting to the Ministries of Health, the Environment, Agriculture, Labor and Consumer Affairs.
Parthasarathy, director of the Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program (STPP), has a long record of research relevant to the ANSES council’s work, including research on the socioeconomic, ethical, and equity dimensions of genetics and biotechnology, and the role that social scientists can play in policymaking related to emerging science and technology, in both the United States and Europe.
“I am excited to work with the ANSES scientific council to develop regulatory strategies that account for a wide range of social, environmental, economic, and health risks, and learn more about science and technology policymaking in France,” Parthasarathy said.
ANSES produces expertise on various topics related to human and animal health, environmental and occupational issues, and food/nutrition. The agency also does research on dedicated scientific topics, and funds research programs conducted elsewhere. The scientific board advises the agency about its research programs, the organization of its expertise, and the type of issues and questions it works on or should work on.
