Consideration of the the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement has been postponed until after the election, when it may come up for a vote in Congress. Ford School Professor Alan Deardorff will moderate this two-person panel on the pros and cons of the TPP.
No one quite knows just what will unfold on November 8 . . . so the afternoon following the election, the Ford School will host an informal panel of experts to discuss the results and projected policy implications of 'Decision 2016'. The 2016 general election will have enormous implications for energy and climate policy in the United States. While much attention will be paid to the positions of presidential candidates, congressional and state elections will also have major implications for how federal and state governments address a variety of crucial issues such as implementing greenhouse gas reduction policies, regulating fracking, crafting subsidies for renewable energy, and much more. Experts with a variety of perspectives will discuss which elections they’re most closely watching, and what different results might mean for energy and climate policy in Michigan, Washington, and beyond.

Carol O'Cleireacain became Deputy Mayor for Economic Policy, Planning & Strategy in October 2014. She is a nationally recognized expert on fiscally troubled states and local governments.
Panelists will discuss the treatment of minorities in several parts of the Muslim world, including the the movement towards decriminalizing homosexuals, the Qur’an’s position on sex/gender, and the history of human rights in the Muslim world. This event follows a lecture by the Nobel-prize winning human rights lawyer Shirin Ebadi, who will participate in the panel discussion.
Shirin Ebadi is an Iranian lawyer, former judge, and human rights activist. Ebadi will be introduced by Bridgette Carr, clinical professor of law at the University of Michigan.

There are many discussions regarding the water crisis affecting our neighbors in Flint. The Ford School is putting together this panel discussion to help the local public engage in policy-focused dialogue from the perspectives of key Flint community members.
