Taught by John Hieftje, former Mayor of Ann Arbor.

Local government has more influence over our daily lives than politicians working in Washington and it is where activist residents can have the most impact. It is also an excellent entry point for anyone considering a career in the public sector.
Cities across the nation are taking the lead on climate change, improved transit, building economic resilience and looking for solutions to growing gentrification and stratification. Using Ann Arbor as a template, this class will explore how a successful city works and many other issues relevant to cities in Michigan and across the nation.
