Poverty, Policy, and People, organized by Maria Cancian and Mary Pattillo, will celebrate and explore the contributions to scholarship and professional development of the University of Michigan's Research and Training Program on Poverty and Public Policy, directed for a quarter of a century by Professor Sheldon Danziger. Danziger began his tenure as President of the Russell Sage Foundation in August 2013.

The conference will feature four research panels on the topics of:

  • Poverty and Welfare
  • Race and Immigration
  • Inequality and Mobility
  • Children and Families

Rebecca M. Blank, former Ford School dean and Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, will deliver the keynote address. The conference will also feature a dinner honoring Sheldon Danziger (invitation only), and a closing lunch with remarks by Melvin Oliver, Sara Miller McCune Dean of Social Sciences, Executive Dean of the College of Letters and Sciences, and Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara (invitation only).
