Our panelists will discuss how developments such as the 2015 Israeli elections, U.S.-Iranian nuclear deal, and recent Palestinian diplomatic initiatives have affected the dispute and prospects for a peace deal. Each speaker will offer brief remarks, followed by Q&A from the audience.

Panelists:

Dr. Shai Feldman is the Judith and Sidney Swartz Director of the Crown Center for Middle East Studies, Brandeis University. Feldman is also an associate fellow of the Royal United Services Institute in London and a senior fellow and member of the board of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University. In 2001-03, he served as a member of the UN secretary-general’s Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters. Feldman was director of the Tel Aviv University Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies’ Project on U.S. Foreign Defense Policies in the Middle East and the Center’s Project on Regional Security and Arms Control in the Middle East.

Dr. Khalil Shikaki is a Professor of Political Science and director of the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (Ramallah, Palestine) Since 2005 he has been a senior fellow at the Crown Center for Middle East Studies at Brandeis University. He finished his Ph.D. in Political Science from Columbia University in 1985, and taught at several Palestinian and American universities. Between 1996-99, Dr. Shikaki served as Dean of Scientific Research at al Najah University in Nablus. He spent summer 2002 as a visiting fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington DC. Since 1993, Dr. Shikaki has conducted more than 200 polls among Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip and, since 2000, dozens of joint polls among Palestinians and Israelis. 

Moderator:

Dr. John D. Ciorciari is Co-Director of the International Policy Center, and Assistant Professor at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy. He was also selected as part of the inaugural class of Andrew Carnegie Fellows, 2015-2017. His research focuses on international law and politics in the Global South. He is a senior legal advisor to the Documentation Center of Cambodia, which promotes historical memory and justice for the atrocities of the Pol Pot regime. He is also an associate fellow at the Asia Society and term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
