Roughly once a month, we will convene community conversations to devour pizza and discuss burning issues in policy and politics. These off-the-record conversations will aim to foster frank and open dialogue among Ford students, faculty, and staff. Each session will feature one or more Ford professors or scholars with relevant expertise, but these will not be lectures. They will be guided conversations in which we share both comments and questions, listen and learn from one another, and seek to co-produce knowledge on policy issues in the United States and around the world. Join the Ford School for a conversation with Michigan Supreme Court Justice, Kyra Harris Bolden, the first Black woman to serve on the state’s highest court. Laurel Beatty Blunt - a Towsley Policymaker in Residence at the Ford School and a judge in Ohio's Tenth District Court of Appeals - will lead the conversation with Justice Bolden on her journey to the Michigan Supreme Court, and the intersection of race and the law in the past and present.

Underrepresentation of Black and Hispanic workers in STEM fields contributes to racial wage gaps and reduces innovation and economic growth. Billions of dollars a year are spent on "pipeline'' programs to increase diversity in STEM, but there is little rigorous evidence of their efficacy.

Join us for our Fall 2023 Democracy in Crisis event, a conversation with Jake Tapper, CNN anchor and chief Washington correspondent, and Lynette Clemetson, Director of Wallace House Center for Journalists. The Ford School partnered with five other public affairs schools across the U.S. to launch the Public Affairs Diversity Alliance. Through the Alliance, the schools commit to training, mentoring, and promoting diverse scholars and sustaining a pipeline of candidates for faculty positions in public affairs and policy.
