January
- January 27: Susan D. Page, our own professor of practice in international diplomacy with the Weiser Diplomacy Center, will be giving the Donia Human Rights Center annual Martin Luther King Jr. lecture on U.S. race relations and foreign policy.
- January 27: the Center for Local, State, and Urban Policy will be hosting a Policy Talks event on communities of interest in Michigan’s new redistricting process.
- Date TBD: We are proud to co-sponsor an event hosted by the Stamps School and Wallace House with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and Eric Foner on Reconstruction: America After the Civil War.
February
- February 8: The Science, Technology and Public Policy Program will be hosting an event with Assistant Professor Ben Green on the social and policy impacts of data science.
- February 15: The Center for Finance Law and Policy is co-hosting a panel as part of U-M Africa Week on FinTech in the African Context, featuring Dean Michael Barr, Professor of Practice Adrienne Harris, and Njuguna Ndung'u, Former Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, among others.
- February 18: We will be hosting Lisa Cook, Michigan State University professor of economics and international relations, for a Policy Talks event about her work on diversity and technical innovation. Professor Betsey Stevenson will moderate the conversation.
- February 18: Professor Earl Lewis will be speaking to U-M students, faculty and staff on history and reparations as part of the Public Policy and Institutional Discrimination Discussion Series.
- February 23: John Beilein, former head coach of the men's basketball team at the University of Michigan, will be giving a talk on team-building and leadership, in conversation with Professor Paula Lantz, associate dean of the Ford School.
March
- Date TBD: We are thrilled to be hosting Dr. Tressie McMillan Cottom, sociologist, author, and recipient of a 2020 MacArthur Fellowship, for a Policy Talks event in collaboration with the Education Policy Initiative.
- March 3: The Ford School Writing Center will be hosting Rebecca Carroll, writer, editor and podcast host at WNYC, to talk about her forthcoming book, Surviving the White Gaze. Beth Chimera, a Writing Center instructor, will moderate the conversation.
- March 8: The Science Technology and Public Policy Program will host a conversation on sustainability and social justice with Darshan Karwat, assistant professor at Arizona State University.
- March 11: Towsley Policymaker in Residence Broderick Johnson will be speaking to U-M students, faculty, and staff about lobbying and mass incarceration as part of the Public Policy and Institutional Discrimination Discussion Series.
- March 22: Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (D-IL) will be joining us for a Gilbert Omenn and Marth Darling Health Policy Fund talk about the future of the Affordable Care Act. She’ll be speaking with Ford School Associate Dean and James B. Hudak Professor of Health Policy, Paula Lantz.
- March 31: Ford School alumnus and Executive Chairman of DTE, Gerry Anderson will join us for a Policy Talks event on energy policy and his role as co-chair of Michigan’s Economic Recovery Council. Assistant Professor Kaitlin Raimi will moderate the discussion.
