PUBPOL 495 (Policy Seminar) is for students currently enrolled in the Public Policy Undergraduate Program only, no exceptions. Enrollment is by permission only.
This course examines policy issues affecting Latine populations in the United States and social movements that have advocated for change at the local, state, and federal levels. Students will gain a nuanced understanding of twentieth and twenty-first century social movements advocating for Latine populations in areas such as immigration, education, healthcare access, and labor.
Importantly, this course will highlight the diversity of Latine populations in the United States and the complex intersections of national origin, race, indigeneity, class, gender, ability, age, and immigration status that shape experiences and political demands. Course materials will include books, articles, films, and podcasts. Each student will research a topic of their choosing. Students will work on this project throughout the semester, with scaffolded assignments that culminate in a final paper due at the end of the term.
