A semester-long course based on simulations and discussions to practice the skills of diplomacy in the modern world by analyzing events and their players.  Each class should involve about 45 minutes of role playing or presentations, with the remaining time reserved for a discussion of the readings, interactions, and topics. We will examine diplomatic events from Ben Franklin in Paris to modern day situations like the Arab Spring and the Rise of China. We will focus on the interacting of the people and interests involved, particularly on the economic factors behind them, and see how some of these themes play through to the modern day.
