Introduction to Policy Writing teaches norms and principles of persuasive writing on policy topics for both decision-makers and general audiences. In small peer workshops, over five class meetings, students study and practice two of the most prevalent types of writing intended to influence policy: intra-organizational memos and public-facing short opinion pieces (op-eds). The primary objective of this .5-credit, pass/fail course is to develop students' argumentative writing skills while improving their abilities to translate policy information and analysis into concise, cogent, and strategically targeted written formats.
