We will explore the transformative effects of advanced AI language models, such as ChatGPT, on labor markets and income distribution. As artificial intelligence continues to evolve, its capacity to automate tasks, augment human capabilities, and generate new forms of employment presents both opportunities and challenges for society. Students will examine how AI-driven technologies are reshaping various industries, potentially displacing certain job roles while creating others, and the implications this has for income inequality and economic mobility.

Through a combination of theoretical frameworks and empirical case studies, the course will analyze:

  • The mechanisms by which AI impacts employment sectors and workforce demands.
  • The potential for AI to exacerbate or mitigate income disparities.
  • Policy interventions aimed at addressing the socioeconomic challenges posed by AI integration, including education reform, workforce retraining, and regulatory measures.
  • Ethical considerations surrounding AI deployment, such as bias, accessibility, and the digital divide.

By engaging in discussions, research projects, and policy analysis, students will develop a nuanced understanding of AI's role in shaping the future of work.
