Once we have a well-crafted policy, how does the structure of law influence that policy? Understanding law is essential to policy, and policy practitioners may come into contact with a wide variety of types of laws and legislation. This course focuses on providing students with a broad overview of some basic legal information in the United States that informs the practice of policy. We will also explore key cases and several broad areas of law to equip us with a deeper understanding of some of the ways in which policy is both influenced and constrained by the law. In addition, students will learn some legal reasoning skills, an understanding of case law, and basic legal research.
