PUBPOL 761: The Politics of Health Policy

This course will examine the politics of health care in the U.S. at the state and national level. Topics will include the political factors affecting Medicare reform, Medicaid spending, health insurance coverage, medical research, pharmaceutical regulation, and other topics, with special attention to the role of private power in health policymaking. Requirements include a few short reaction papers, a research paper, and at least one formal presentation.

Richard L. Hall

Professor of Public Policy and Political Science

Hall’s research interests focus on American national politics. He has studied participation and representation in Congress, campaign finance reform, congressional oversight, issue advertising, health politics, and health policy. He is currently writing a book on interest group lobbying and the role of political money in Congressional policy making.
