The International Policy Research Seminar (IPRS) is a multi-disciplinary speaker series that showcases research-in-progress on international phenomena presented by invited (external) faculty guests. This year’s theme is “Constructing and Destructing Global Orders.” Please join Dr. Daniel Mattingly (Yale University) as he discusses how Chinese state media persuades a global audience that the ‘China model’ is superior.
About the Speaker
Dr. Daniel Mattingly is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Yale University. His research focuses on the domestic and international politics of authoritarian regimes, historical political economy, and China.
Dr. Mattingly is the author of The Art of Political Control in China (Cambridge University Press, 2020). It received the best book award from the Democracy and Autocracy Section of the American Political Science Association, was named a book of the year by Foreign Affairs, and won the Gaddis Smith International Book Prize.
Currently, Dr. Mattingly is working on a new book on the role of the military and ideology in elite politics in China. A related article won the Luebbert Best Article Award from the Comparative Politics Section of APSA.
