How to attend
Trina Shanks is the director of the School of Social Work Community Engagement, the Harold R. Johnson Collegiate Professor of Social Work and Faculty Associate, and director of the Center for Equitable Family and Community Well-Being at the School of Social Work. Her research interests include the impact of poverty and wealth on child well-being; asset-building policy and practice across the life cycle; and community and economic development. She continues ongoing research and intentionally seeks and responds to new opportunities that will empower families and communities to thrive.
Real World Perspectives on Poverty Solutions introduces key issues regarding the causes and consequences of poverty through an in-person lecture series featuring experts in policy and practice from across the nation. Our goal is to help build a broad community of learners to engage in these issues together.
This series is free and open to the public, but is also a one-credit course available for U-M students during the Fall 2024 semester. Students can enroll in SWK 503 001 or U-M class 26997 on Canvas.
