Winter 2025 Commencement

The University of Michigan Class of 2025 celebrates Winter Commencement at Crisler Center. Doors for graduates and guests open at 12:30 p.m. with the ceremony beginning at 2 p.m.

Fred Upton, a former U.S. Representative from the state of Michigan and a U-M alumnus, will be the main speaker at the Dec. 14 ceremony at Crisler Center. Upton has been recommended for an honorary Doctor of Laws.

Others recommended for honorary degrees by the university's Honorary Degree Committee are:

Diane Judith Nash, American civil rights activist (Doctor of Humane Letters)
Robert Langer, biotechnologist, chemical engineer, chemist and inventor (Doctor of Engineering)
Don Was, musician, composer and record producer (Doctor of Music)

All graduates who would like to attend the ceremony must redeem a graduate ticket. Tickets will be available to redeem in early December. Students will be notified via email when tickets go live. For questions regarding graduation eligibility, check the commencement eligibility page.

All graduates and guests entering the arena, along with their belongings, are subject to search. Guests are encouraged to travel lightly to expedite their entry into the facility.

Be sure to check the permitted and prohibited items lists before arriving at Crisler Center. No purses, bags, wristlets, or cases of any size will be allowed in Crisler Center. Exceptions will be granted for medical and diaper bags only.

Please note: Students graduating in Fall 2025 are eligible to participate in either the Winter Commencement Ceremony (December 2025) or the Spring Commencement Ceremony (May 2026).

Eligible students will automatically receive email communications regarding the Winter Commencement. If you intend to participate in the Spring Commencement, you may disregard those messages. Information about the Spring Commencement will automatically be sent to your UMICH email address next semester.
