SHARP Insights: The impact of journalistic norms on the framing of Title IX and women's sports

Marie Hardin teaches classes that focus on sports and society at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Her research concentrates on diversity, ethics and professional practices in mediated sports. Her work has been published in Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Sociology of Sport Journal, Sex Roles, Newspaper Research Journal, Mass Communication & Society, Journalism, Journal of Sports Management, and The Howard Journal of Communications, among others. Recent research has focused on social attitudes and values of sports journalists and bloggers and on the experiences and career paths of women in sports journalism.

In 2010, Hardin was a finalist for the Scripps Howard Foundation Journalism Teacher of the Year. She received her PhD in 1998 from the University of Georgia. Before completing her PhD, she worked as a newspaper reporter and editor; she has also worked as a freelance magazine writer.

This lecture is hosted by the SHARP Center (Sport, Health and Activity Research and Policy Center for Women and Girls), the School of Kinesiology, and the Institute for Research on Women and Gender, with additional support from the Center for the Education of Women, the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, and the School of Public Health.
