Mr. Brown will share his professional journey and address some current issues facing the Great Lakes region.

 

From the speaker's bio

As senior advisor for external relations at the Great Lakes Commission, Eric Brown works with a broad array of decision-makers and stakeholders to enhance collaboration through the Great Lakes region. In this role, Eric is deeply involved in efforts to secure a healthy and prosperous future for the environment and economy of the Great Lakes. Eric facilitates the commission’s Standing Committee on Climate Resilience and also leads the commission’s advocacy efforts at the federal, state, and provincial levels.

Previously, Eric served as deputy director of federal relations for Governor Rick Snyder, where he developed and implemented the Governor's federal and state policy strategies. In this role, he developed a robust federal policy platform for the State of Michigan on behalf of the governor's office and 12 State agencies. During this time Eric was integral in efforts to establish Michigan's position as the global epicenter of transportation and advanced mobility while also working on many regional and international efforts to support infrastructure investment and environmental protection throughout the Great Lakes.

Prior to joining the governor's office, Eric worked for a multiclient lobbying firm, where he executed lobbying strategies on behalf of companies and industry associations in the areas of manufacturing, transportation, and health care. He also served in several capacities for former U.S. Congressman Joe Knollenberg, advising him for his role on the U.S. House Appropriations Committee.

Eric is a graduate of the James Madison College at Michigan State University and lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan with his wife and their two children.
