Megan Piersma, the Ford School's Student Services Program Coordinator, was awarded a 2008 U-M Distinguished Diversity Leadership Award for her work with the Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Junior Summer Institute.
Megan coordinates the U-M's PPIA summer institute, which helps to prepare underrepresented students for graduate school and, ultimately, leadership positions in public service. Megan was recognized for her extensive work with a student in the 2008 PPIA cohort who was living with cerebral palsy.
The Distinguished Diversity Leaders Award, established by the Office of the Provost and University Human Resources, recognizes staff members who work toward creating a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive working environment. In its inaugural year, ten individuals and five teams of U-M staff were awarded for their dedication to diversity.
