The article, "Will the Midwest Turn Its Back on Addressing Climate Change?" explores the impact that the upcoming gubernatorial elections and the predominance of economic issues might have on whether states roll back existing efforts to protect the environment and spur green economic transformation.
Rabe notes that the current fiscal crisis limits the ability of gubernatorial candidates to propose new climate initiatives or pledge support for existing programs. He goes on to point out that many of the incumbent candidates are Democrats "in a year that is thought to not be good for incumbents or Democrats."
