John Chamberlin quoted in Washington Post article, "Detroit mayor says ousted chief 'blindsided' him"

July 22, 2010
John Chamberlin was quoted in an Associated Press story, appearing in the Washington Post and other news sources, about the firing of Detroit's chief of police. Mayor Dave Bing fired Chief Warren Evans after learning of his involvement with two reality shows and a romantic relationship with another Detroit police officer, Lt. Monique Patterson.

As Chamberlin explained to the AP, the interdepartmental relationship presented the most serious ethical concerns. When the chief dates a lieutenant, "anyone between them in the chain of command is implicated," he said. In an effort to prevent more bad publicity for Detroit, Chamberlin said Evans should have disclosed his relationship to Bing and tried to work out a solution that took Patterson out of his (Evans') command structure.
