Sheldon Danziger quoted in New York Times article, "Soaring Poverty Casts Spotlight on 'Lost Decade'"

According to the new report, the 2010 U.S. poverty rate was 15.1 percent—an increase from 14.3 percent in 2009. The number of Americans living in poverty—46.2 million—was the highest number recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau since it began tracking 52 years ago.
The report also showed economic distress in many working-age categories, including male full-time, year-round workers. The adjusted annual income for these workers has barely changed since 1973. Thirty-seven years ago these workers made $49,065 annually, but only made $47,715 in 2010. "That's not about the poor and unemployed, that's full time, year round," Danziger told the New York Times. "The median, full-time male worker has made no progress on average."
