Members of the Ford School community participated in a three-mile solidarity run through Ann Arbor on Saturday to honor victims of the April 15 Boston Marathon bombing. The event, organized by Ford School graduate student James (Jimmy) Schneidewind (MPP '14) and co-sponsored by the Ford School, the City of Ann Arbor, and local organizations and businesses, was planned as a way for the Ann Arbor and University of Michigan communities to show support for victims of the bombing.
"Part of the people that will show up today will do so because they saw runners in Boston going through something difficult and it resonated with them," Schneidewind told The Michigan Daily. "They wanted to stand up for their running brethren."
Nearly two hundred runners logged a total of 543 miles and joined participants in dozens of similar runs taking place around the world this week. The Ann Arbor event, which was attended by runners from this year's Boston Marathon and Ford School Dean Susan Collins, began with brief remarks on the events of April 15.
"It's important to demonstrate publicly it won't divide us," Schneidewind told AnnArbor.com. "It will make us stronger."
