On February 21, the Nonprofit and Public Management Center (NPM) will host Education Pioneers CEO Scott Morgan as part the organization's annual Social Impact Challenge. The NPM event is an annual case competition that offers U-M students the opportunity to address managerial and program challenges in the real world by collaborating with a nonprofit organization focused on social impact.
This year's partner organization, Education Pioneers, is a national nonprofit that works in 18 cities nationwide to prepare future leaders and managers to advance excellence in education. The goal of the 2013 Social Impact Challenge is to develop a strategy through which Education Pioneers can reach its goal of preparing 10,000 new leaders by 2023. In particular, participants will be asked to focus on areas of the country with the highest need, such as Detroit. Student participants will present their proposals to a panel of judges and Education Pioneers CEO Scott Morgan, who will offer feedback and choose a winner.
The Social Impact Challenge is one of several programs run by the NPM, which is a partnership of the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, the Ross School of Business, and the School of Social Work. Its aim is to provide students with opportunities to develop critical skills for pursuing careers in the nonprofit world.
