As the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission begins its work, Michigan citizens are being called upon to help with the process. John Chamberlin, professor emeritus of public policy and political science, explained how the new structure of redistricting benefits Michiganders.

"I think it provides an incentive for the community of interest to act like a community, to get together and talk about what they want to communicate with their elected officials," he said. "The idea here is to listen to those people about what would make a sensible representation structure for them, and try to make as many people happy as you can."
