Parthasarathy comments on OTC COVID-19 tests

Even as the rates of COVID-19 are dropping, the disease remains a threat. A need remains for COVID testing, and over-the-counter COVID-19 tests are being experimented with in the U.S. But, with these tests being taken at home, the question of how to ensure people who have tested positive for COVID-19 are quarantining arises.

“We can’t tech our way out of this, and we keep trying to find ways to tech our way out,” Shobita Parthasarathy, professor of public policy and director of the Science, Technology, and Public Policy program, said in Chemical and Engineering News. “By and large, certainly in the U.S. context, you don’t get a lot of support to stay at home.”
