Stevenson weighs in on unemployment benefits debate

May 24, 2021 CNBC

As businesses begin to open up again unemployment benefits and those receiving them are topics of debate. Staffing shortages are common and people are asking where the work force has gone. Betsey Stevenson, professor of public policy and economics, helped answer that question.

"There’s a transition that gonna have to happen, people have to get back, but I think you need to focus on the fact that some people are still hesitant to do the normal things they are doing," Stevenson said. "They still fear what happening with the virus, they don’t have a lot of confidence. … But we’re seeing hesitancy and I think that’s way more important than any unemployment benefits."
