Market designs and policies can serve to promote clean energy. However, if policymakers are not careful in considering academic research on energy, negative unintended impacts could arise from policy action, specifically increasing CO2 emissions. The Ford School's Catie Hausman spoke with the Environmental Defense Fund and asserted, "In a world without the ideal carbon emissions regulation that we might hope for, we need to be careful about the unintended consequences of our policies, especially around things like new technologies or changes to electricity markets.”
